Warwick Farm trainer Joe Pride missed out in Sydney’s richest sprint but he has three chances in a helter-skelter race which holds a time-honoured place in the autumn carnival on Saturday.
Pride will start Ladys Angel, Title and News Alert in the $350,000 Group One Galaxy (1100m) at Randwick confident their chances are being enhanced with each drop of rain which falls in Sydney.
“They have all got fantastic records in the wet,” Pride said.
Pride will be chasing a belated 2012 Group One win after Rain Affair was caught on the line by Master Of Design in the $1 million TJ Smith Stakes.
Ladys Angel will back up after she took the minor placing to Atlantic Jewel in the Sapphire Stakes.
“She went really well on Saturday coming back to the sprint trip,” Pride said.
“I’m pretty sure that sprinting is her go.
“I like bringing horses back in distance. The way I train they are suited by it and I’ve had a lot of success doing it.
“I don’t think I have my horses as fit as some trainers and I think that’s when it’s hard to bring them back in distance, when they are fit.
“You can train the sprint out of their legs. I’m trying to keep the sprint in my horses’ legs and I’m better placed than most to do it.”
Pride expects old stager News Alert to run well after his improved showing in the Sebring Stakes.
“It’s the race Master Of Design came out of so that’s a pretty solid form reference there for him,” Pride said.
Randwick was rated heavy on Wednesday.
